Dr. Micek will retire next week

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — After two decades of service to Hartington area residents, Dr. Connie Micek is set to retire from Avera Sacred Heart’s Hartington clinic.

Her last day seeing patients will be Monday, Sept. 6.

Nurse Practitioner Tonya Joachimsen will continue to provide services at the clinic, while the search for a new physician here continues.

Avera is actively recruiting for an advanced practice provider and a physician to work at the Hartington clinic, said Nathan Johnson, Avera’s communications and public relations partner in marketing.

Micek’s specialties included the full scope of family practice, including low-risk obstetrics. She graduated from the Creighton University School of Medicine in 1994 and completed her residency at Puget Sound Family Medicine at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash.

Before joining the Hartington clinic, Micek worked as a family practice staff physician at the Branch Medical Clinic Submarine Base in Silverdale, Wash.

She and her husband, Steve Hillis moved to Hartington in 2001. She then started seeing patients here Sept. 4, 2001.
