MARTINSBURG — Dorothy M. Dowling, 92, Martinsburg, died Jan. 14, 2018, at the Wakefield Health Care Center, Wakefield. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7 p.m., Jan. 17, at Mohr Funeral Home, Ponca. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Jan. 18, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ponca, with Father Andrew L. Sohm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca. Dorothy was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Sholes, the daughter of Leonard and Lorna (Kinney) Whalen. She graduated from St. Frances Catholic School, Randolph. She married Kenneth Dowling June 14, 1944, at St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph. Together they owned and operated the bar in Martinsburg for ten years. Kenneth passed away in 1995. Dorothy was an honorary member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ponca. She enjoyed camping, fishing, crocheting and embroidery work, and was famous for her potato salad. Survivors include four sons, Francis Dowling, Wallace; Ronnie and Darlene Dowling, Carl Junction, Mo.; Rick and Mikki Dowling, Wausa; and Kenneth and Gloria Dowling, Allen; four daughters, Cheri and Merle Krusemark, Wakefield; Peg and Dick McCoy, Allen; Cathy Pond, Martinsburg; and Sandy and Steve Sullivan Sr., Martinsburg; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Lorna Whalen; her husband, Kenneth Dowling; daughter-inlaw, Diane Dowling; grandson, Chad Sullivan; and siblings, Virginia Brown, Geraldine Caster and Gene Whalen
