Doris Johanna Sohler

LAUREL — Doris Johanna Sohler, 94, Laurel, died Sept. 9, 2019, at the Providence Medical Center, Wayne.

Visitation and a prayer service were Sept. 12 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel, and continue one hour prior to services Friday.

Funeral Services were Sept. 13 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel, with Pastor Jeffery Warner officiating.

Burial was in the Laurel Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.

Pallbearers were Cade Sohler, David Sohler, Eric Sohler, Zach Sohler, Garrett Taylor, and Wyatt Taylor.

Honorary Pallbearers were all of Doris’ grandchildren.

Doris was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Yankton, S.D., to Henry and Johanna (Marquardt) Kiepke. She grew up on a farm north of Mission Hill, S.D., along with her five sisters, Dorothea, Ruth, Helen, twin sister, Doreen, and Altrude. Doris was baptized into the Lutheran faith March 1, 1925. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Yankton, S.D., until she married, and then joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel. There she attended Bible Study, LWML, and helped with Bible School. Doris enjoyed traveling, painting, playing cards, going out to eat with friends, embroidering, and working at the sale barn on sale day for many years.

Doris married Eugene Sohler Oct. 5, 1946, in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Doreen, and her husband, Eddie Tim. Doris and Eugene had four children.

Doris is survived by two sons, Chuck (Alice) Sohler, Laurel, and Lamont (Sheila) Sohler, Freeman, S.D.; and daughter, Cynthia (Lyston) Taylor, Concord; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene, in November 1981; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria (Gaylen) Brummels; sisters, Dorothea Huether, Ruth Kiepke, Helen Graning, Altrude Olson, twin sister, Doreen; grandson, John Brummels; and great-great-grandchild, Ami Brummels.
