Devils fall to S.D. team

CANISTOTA, S.D. — The Wynot Blue Devils travelled north across the river to battle the Hawks of Canistota High School 

The Blue Devils found it tough sledding up north as the Hawks built a 32-26 halftime lead and rolled to the 66-45 win.

Canistota had a balanced attack with four players in double figures. Tyer Ortman led the way with 15 points. Logan Katzer connected for 14, Chase Merrill hit for 13 points and Isiah Robertson chipped in with 12 points

Wynot was led by Anthony Haberman with 14 points and Charlie Schroeder had a solid first half contributing 11 points. Jack Kuchta also helped out hitting a pair of three pointers and collecting eight points on the night.

The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders as they got 5 points each from Chase Merrill, Tye Ortman and Isiah Robertson and raced to 21-12 early lead.

Wynot got a 3-pointer from Jack Kuchta and conventional three points each from Charlie Schroeder and Anthony Haberman.

The Blue Devils continued to lose ground in the second quarter despite eight points from Haberman and four more points from Schroeder. The Hawks balanced attack continued with five points each from Isiah Robertson and Chase Merrill, along with four free throws by Tye Ortman. The 21-14 run in the quarter gave the Hawks a 42-26 halftime advantage.

Wynot tried to rally after halftime but was plagued by inconsistency on the offensive end. Jack Kuchta hit a second trey in the third quarter and a basket each by Trystan Heimes and Anthony Haberman supply Wynot’s points.

Canistota got a couple buckets by Tye Ortman and 5 points from the charity stripe to maintain the 53-33 lead.

In the fourth quarter Wynot got a trey by Carson Wieseler but were not able to close the gap as the Hawks earned the big 66-45 win.
