Denelda Becker

HARTINGTON — Denelda Becker, 80, Hartington, died on Jan. 10, 2020, at her residence, after suffering a stroke.

Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 13 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Visitation and a Vigil service were Sunday at the church, and continued Monday one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers were Ty Becker, Rachel Hussey,EricBecker,ShayeSlaughter,Jack Steffen, Easton Becker and Cole Becker.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.  

Denelda Theresa was born April 20, 1939, in Fordyce, to Hugo William and Hildegarde T. (Arens) Lammers. She grew up in the Fordyce area and attended the Lammers Ranch school and graduated from West Catholic Elementary School, and then from Holy Trinity High School, Hartington, in 1957. Denelda worked for Dr. Paul Lammers’ dentist office for a total of five years. She married Marcell Cletus Becker February 7, 1961, in Fordyce. Denelda and Marcell raised seven children, Keith, Joan, Gayle, Diane, Brenda, Doug and Darin.

Denelda was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its women’s guild. She held an hour of Perpetual Adoration for many years. She was a charter member of the Blue Ribbon Committee, a member of Christian Mothers and past officer, and a Red Hat Club member. Denelda volunteered in the lunch room at Holy Trinity cafeteria and at church. Denelda loved playing cards, sewing, gardening, traveling and having coffee with her friends. She enjoyed attending all of her children and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years.

Denelda is survived by her seven children and spouses, Keith (Bette) Becker, Hartington; Joan (Eric) Mee, Des Moines, Iowa; Gayle (Rhonda) Becker, Hartington; Diane (Shane) Slaughter, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Brenda (Matt) Steffen, Hartington; Darin (Angie) Becker, Hartington; Doug (Sheila) Becker, Hartington; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marcella Lammers, Yankton, S.D.; seven siblings, Mary Jean (Jerry) Steffen, Crofton; Allen (Carol) Lammers, Hartington; Vernon (Glendy) Lammers, Hartington; Merlin (Pat) Lammers, Fremont; Darrell (Jean) Lammers, Fordyce; Anita Kneifl, Sioux Falls, S.D.; David (Lori) Lammers, Fordyce; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marcell, March 18, 2005, at the age of 67 years; and a brother, Marvin Lammers.
