Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Deborah (Lane) Sargent was born Dec. 20, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa. She died Aug. 26, 2018, at her home in Hartington. Deborah moved to Vermillion, S.D., in 1966 with her father to be closer to his family after the death of her mother. She married Jack Voigt May 18, 1974, and divorced in 1984. Deb married Jerry Wayne Sargent June 4, 1985. They lived in Palmdale, Calif., until Jerry passed due to cancer June 17, 2001. She moved back to South Dakota to be closer to family. Deb met Steve Seim in November 2001, and she spent the next 16 years living on a farm they shared in Hartington. Although a city girl at heart, Deb grew to love the farm life. She enjoyed riding the four-wheelers, watching the deer and turkeys, and feeding the cats. She passed the time crocheting, doing word finds, reading, and amassing a lot of clothes from rummage sales. Deborah is survived by sisters, Patti (Jim) Hausladen and Dee Dee Kissick; son, Mike Lane; daughter, Melanie (Jeremy) Kirkpatric; step daughter, Becky Sargent; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Cody (Sarah) Sargent, Christopher Sargent, Katlyn Garcia, Lexi Sargent, Alex Lane, Avery Garcia, Austin Creighton, Nathaniel Beene and Dylan Kirkpatrick; and great grandchildren, Raelyn Sargent-Barta, Arabella Bollich, Lincoln Bollich, and Quinton Isaac Lebeau. She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Jean Lane; father, Kenneth (Shirlene) Lane; sons, Christopher, Jaime and Kevin; sister, Kim (Bonesy) Taggart; grandmother, Rose and Louie Johnson. She was followed in death by sister, Lynette (Terry) Clarey. Memorial services will be determined at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home, Vermillion, S.D.
