D2 State Tourney field features lots of big shooters

Posted in:

LINCOLN - There are some big scorers in this year’s D2 State Tourney.

None is bigger, though, than Quinn Johnson of Loomis.

The 6-2 Junior has hit for 645 points on the year - an average of 24.5 per game.

He’s not only a great shooter, but he’s very active on the boards, as he also leads the entire Class in rebounding with 216 on the season.

He isn’t the only member of the Loomis Wolves that can score, though.

Two other Wolves also made the Top 15 scoring list for this year’s Class D2 State Tourney.

Shay Swanson, a 5-11 Junior, has hit for 343 points per game for Loomis, while Aden Lovett has sunk 253 to date.

Osceola, Parkview Christian, Mullen and Humphrey St. Francis also have multiple players in the Top 15.

Osceola’s Isiaha Zelasney is sure to eclipse the 500-point mark this season. He enters the state tourney with 493 points -second best in the class. His teammate, Kale Gustafson, is the fifth-highest scorer in the class with 390 points.

Tanner Pfeifer of Humphrey St. Francis is the third highest scorer in the class with 473 points this season. He is Joined in the Top 15 by teammate Justin Leifeld with 314 points.

Parkview Christian of Lincoln also features a potent scoring duo in Mark Lual and Jaheim Curry. Lual hit for 393 so far this season, while Curry has connected for 362.

Mullen appears to have the most balanced

Wynot senior Anthony Haberman comes in at 10th on the Top 15 list with 317 points.

Tanner Pfeifer of Humphrey St. Francis is also a big rebounder, going up for 199 so far this season, which was good enough for second in the Class.

This year’s Class D2 State Tourney preview statistics are skewed a bit, O’Neill St. Marys did not get their roster or player information to the NSAA office ahead of the print deadlines.
