Cyril Martin Kneifl

NEWCASTLE — Cyril Martin Kneifl, 69, Newcastle, died suddenly May 11, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.

Private Mass of Christian Burial was May 15 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Newcastle, with the Rev. Andy Sohm, Rev. Rodney Kneifl and Rev. Jim Kramper officiating.

Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle. Services were also live stream at www.facebook.com/WintzRay/live/.

A public viewing was held Thursday, at the church in Newcastle, with a 10-person limit and required face coverings.

Pallbearers were Peter Kneifl, Clayton Kneifl, Randy Kneifl, Chad Kneifl, Greg Kneifl and Carl Kneifl. Honorary pallbearers were Cyril’s grandchildren, Carson

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Cyril was born Jan. 30, 1951, in Newcastle, to Peter and Elizabeth (Burbach) Kneifl. He grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1970. Cyril worked for Prince Hydraulics, Sioux City, Iowa, prior to his marriage. He married Janet Amelia Leise June 2, 1973, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Cyril farmed for a while and then worked at Great Dane Trailer, Wayne for 16 years, ending up as supervisor. Cyril was an excellent mechanic and taught this trade to his sons.

Cyril was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was on the Volunteer Fireman Department. He always enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Cyril is survived by his wife, Janet, Newcastle; five children, Jeff and companion, Debbie Landwehr, Newcastle; Dan (Amber) Kneifl, Harrisburg, S.D.; Tim Kneifl and companion, Anna Marie Hinds, Burbank, S.D.; Deb (Pete) McDermott, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Stacey (Brian) Conner, Chisago City, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Carson McDermott, Kylee McDermott, Stella Conner, Addie Conner, Kenzie McDermott, Brayden Kneifl, Liam Conner and Rylee Kneifl; four siblings, Ray (Kathy) Kneifl, Newcastle; Sylvester (Ellen) Kneifl, Newcastle; Joe (Sherry) Kneifl, Sulfur Springs, Texas; Ken (MaryAnn) Kneifl, Newcastle; sister-in-law, Romaine Kneifl Moran, Newcastle; many nieces and nephews.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Kneifl; parents-in-law, Anton and Julia Leise; a brother, Leonard Kneifl; sister-in-law, Marietta Kneifl; and brother-in-law, Edward Moran.
