CWC, Weeping Water bring some big shooters to State

LINCOLN — There will be some big guns at this year’s State Tournament.

Three athletes in the 2020 Class D1 State Tournament have hit for over 400 points this season.

The top scorer going into this year’s Class D1 State Tournament is Chambers-Wheeler Central’s Taylor Peter, who connected for 549 points this year.

The 6-0 senior standout is averaging 21.1 points per contest. She also leads the entire field in rebounding, cleaning the boards for 271 rebounds, helping her average a double-double every game.

A pair of Weeping Water athletes are next on the Top 10 list.

Grace Cave, a 5-9 junior, is averaging 18,6 points per contest, while teammate Peyton Barrett isn’t far behind with 17.8 per game.

Maywood-Hayes Center’s Avery Johnson finds herself just outside of the 400-point club so far this year with 383 points for the 2019-20 season.

Pender’s Ashley Ostrand rounds out the Top Five with 381 points on the year. Cedar Catholic’s Brynn Wortmann is 10th on the State scoring list with 286 points on the year.

This year’s tournament will feature a lot of offensive firepower.

CWC is dropping in a tourney-high 63 points per game. They hit for more than 70 points eight times this season.

Pleasanton is putting up 60.8 points per contest while putting together a perfect 25-0 season.

Weeping Water averages 58 points per contest.

Grace Cave is also one of the top passers in the class. She has dished out 131 assists to date.

Dundy County Stratton’s Sable Lambley is also a true ace when it comes to distributing the ball under the basket.

She has dished off 121 assists so far this season to go along with her 163 points.
