Crofton downs Expos

Posted in:

CROFTON — The Crofton Bluejays advanced in the opening round of the South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball District 5 on July 21 with a 12-6 win over the Wynot Expos to send Wynot to a consolation game.

Wynot tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Jackson Sudbeck opened the frame with a single past the shortstop.

Lee Heimes singled to right field to move Sudbeck to second with one out. Jaelen Wieseler walked to load the bases. Peyton Wieseler, who took the loss on the hill, hit a fly ball to left field, which was caught, but deep enough to score Sudbeck.

A five-run fifth pushed the Bluejay lead to 6-1, but the Expos answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Heimes got the rally started in the third frame with another single, this one to left field with two outs.

Jaelen Wieseler ripped a double up the middle before Peyton Wieseler stepped to the plate and jacked a home run to center field to clear the bases and make the score 6-4 heading into the fourth inning.

Three more runs by Crofton in the next at-bat made it 9-4 and Wynot scored two in the bottom of the fifth frame to make it 9-6, but the Expos’ bats were silent from there and Crofton earned the win.

Wynot wasted a solid performance from Peyton Wieseler at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with the home run and a single and drove in four runs.

Heimes was 3-for-4 and scored twice.
