COVID numbers are still on the rise

WAYNE — Cedar County is still in the Red Zone in the latest Northeast Nebraska Public Health Dept. report.

Cedar County recorded 21 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Since the pandemic started here back in March, Cedar County has had 587 reported cases.

Wayne County is still the hardest hit county in the four-county Northeast Neb. Health District with 834 cases to date.

The state had 141,244 COVID cases as of Monday and 1,245 deaths have been attributed to the virus.

At his Monday press conference, Gov. Pete Ricketts said the number of virus hospitalizations increased 11 cases Sunday to 768 after having declined every day since Nov. 30. That total is significantly below the record of 987 set Nov. 20, but it is more than triple where it was at the start of October.

He asked people to avoid the three C’s: close contact, confined spaces and crowded places. He said anyone traveling for the holidays should take advantage of TestNebraska.
