Couple enjoying their decision to take on clubhouse positions

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Hartington Golf Club clubhouse manager Keith Holm and his girlfriend, Kathy Roden, are really enjoying the decision they made to come back to Nebraska.

Holm and Roden were living in Texas a little over a year ago when Holm felt the need to come back home to take care of his mother.

“We were both kind of ready to leave Texas,” Holm said. “My mom’s health was failing, so we just kind of thought it was the right thing to do.”

They had been making an annual trek to Coleridge on his mother’s birthday, but decided to make it permanent in early spring.

“We heard the golf course was looking for a clubhouse manager and decided to try and get the job,” Holm said.

He got the job and brought in his girlfriend to help with the kitchen area.

“There was this nice kitchen sitting there that wasn’t getting enough use, I thought,” Roden said. “We had a group of nine or 10 guys coming in for coffee in the morning so I decided to start a breakfast menu.”

“We felt it was a way to attract people to the course,” Holm said.

In addition, Holm and Roden will be found serving food to golfers, along with their staff, during league nights, tournaments and special events at the course.

They were also mindful of other businesses in town who were offering the same fares.

“We weren’t really trying to compete with other restaurants,” Roden said. “We were just trying to fill a void or fill a need in the community.”

Holm was coming home, but Roden says the area is already feeling like home.

“People have been so welcoming and very supportive of what we are doing,” she said.

And she added, very friendly. “We live in the country and sometimes we’d come home after a snow and the neighbors had already scooped our snow,” Roden said. “That is so thoughtful.”

“Yeah, she hates scooping snow,” Holm said.
