County will host used tire recycling collection site

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Cedar County Commissioners approved the dates for the annual countywide used tire collection and disposal at their June 25 meeting.

The Commissioners set the two dates of July 31 and August 1 for Cedar County residents to drop off used tires at the County Recycling Center east of Hartington on Hwy. 84 between the times of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at no cost. Tire dealers are not permitted to drop off used tires for disposal.

A grant that was applied for and received will pick up a large part of the cost of the tire disposal including work hours on the part of the county employees helping with the tire collection and the loading of used tires to be shipped out to a processing center.

Road Superintendent, Carla Schmidt talked with the board on the various road projects going on including the road issue in the Brooky Bottom area and a Heimes road project requiring a box culvert. Both projects will be bid out together at one time for efficiency purposes.
