County Commissioners will pursue 911 Center

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Cedar County Commissioners dealt with a short agenda at their April 14 meeting at the Cedar County Courthouse.

Cedar County Emergency Manager Kevin Garvin met with commissioners to get their decision on whether Cedar County should be considered to be a host candidate for the new NexGen 911 emergency service program that he presented at the last county commissioner’s meeting March 24.

Garvin said after doing  more research, he felt that Cedar County could easily handle being a host and that the county should continue their interest in being one of three host sites for northeast Nebraska.

Cedar County was one of the first counties to originally install a county-wide 911 system. The County has gained a reputation as being on the cutting edge of 911 technology.

The other possible sites are Norfolk, Wayne and South Sioux City and only three will be chosen sometime in the future.

The commissioners voted 3-0 to continue pursuing interest in being considered as a host site for the new 911 program.

Road Supt., Carla Schmidt presented resolution 20-05 on a bridge project that was approved by a 3-0 vote.  Schmidt also mentioned the new bridge scheduled to be built on the road just south of Bow Valley is still on the schedule for a June 1 start and the target is to have it completed in time for the Schuetzenfest German Celebration in Bow Valley scheduled for August.

Zoning Administrator Tim Gobel presented a building permit for Terry Wuebben for a 40’ X 60’ steel building which was approved by the zoning board.

From here on out, building permits will be approved by the County Zoning Board and Gobel will then advise the County Commissioners on the permits that were approved.

Assessor Don Hoesing presented a tax correction on a personal property claim which was approved by a 3-0 vote.

Treasurer Jean Wiebelhaus updated the board with a list of properties where taxes are delinquent and that will be turned over to the County Sheriff for a tax sale.

The list of properties was approved by the commissioners with a 3-0 vote.

The next scheduled County Commissioners’ meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 28, at the County Courthouse.
