Council approves permits; hears parking complaint

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday approved several building permits and heard a complaint about parking concerns.

City Official Leroy Hansen presented seven building permits for the Council to review and approve.

A permit was approved for Chris Schmidt, who plans to add a double garage on the west side of the old VE Rossiter house.

A permit was also approved for Michael and Holly Hoeppner to extend a deck at their house.

A building permit was also approved for the construction of a new house in WestField Acres for Gary and Lisa Kruse.

A permit was also approved for a new deck to be built on the back of the Heath and Jamie Walter house.

Another permit, for a storage shed for Rick Perk, was also approved.

A permit for a new deck was approved for Lady Dianna Anderson.

A renewal of a building permit for Chris Miller for a storage shed was also granted. The shed is being built behind Casey’s General Store.

Mayor Mark Becker and City Clerk Natalie Schaecher said they also received a citizen complaint about parking.

The resident was concerned about traffic flow when cars park on both sides of a street.

To create a better flow of traffic, the Council would like to urge residents not to park across from each other. When vehicles park on both sides of the street it makes for a narrow lane for traffic to get through.

Mayor Becker said he understands this can be a real issue at times, but said he’d prefer that people just try to park so they aren’t across from each other, rather than having to pass a law about it.

“I’d rather not have to pass an ordinance restricting where people can park,” he said. “I’d like to ask people to do it before we have to tell them to do it.”
