CEDAR CATHOLIC

Games this Week: at O’Neill, 6:15 Friday; at Norfolk Catholic, 7:15 Monday

Outlook: O’Neill should offer another tough challenge for the Lady Trojans as their physical play will be a key to this matchup. A disciplined approach on the fast break will help in order to control tempo.

Last week’s results: Lost to Crofton, 56-40 and lost to Boone Central, 51-40.

Coach Craig Wortmann Comments: “We want to continue to learn to play together and with each other and work on team defense and smart decisions. We are playing some very good teams now. So, we need to stay focused and not get down on ourselves. “Last week, we played six very good quarters of basketball but there were two quarters that were not very good. Those were two very good teams and they really showed us what we need to improve on.”

HARTINGTON-NEWCASTLE

Games this Week: vs Pierce, 4:30 Saturday

Outlook: The Lady Wildcats are in the third year of playing Pierce in the regular season, splitting the prior two games – both winning on their home floor in two competitive contests.

Last week’s results: Lost to Ponca 54-27, defeated Osmond, 60-41. Coach Josh Morten Comments: “Last year, Pierce came out in the first half and shot very well, and we never recovered. We want to keep getting better at the fundamental side of basketball. We really need to focus on the little things that can win you basketball games. We are still a little behind from where we need to be. With missing as much practice as we did, it shows. These kids are very busy with school this time of year, but they want to get better at basketball, and we did improve from one game to the next.

“We at times played well against Ponca, especially in the first quarter. We just couldn’t score. Offensively, we struggled and gave up too many easy points to them throughout the game. Against Osmond, we had a much-improved offensive output. They shot very well in the first half to keep them in the game and we stepped it up a bit the second half defensively and only allowed them 13 points in that half.” WYNOT

Games this Week: vs. Guardian Angels Central Catholic, 6:15 Thursday; at Osmond, 6:15 Friday; vs. Homer, 6:15 Tuesday.

Outlook: This is the sixth year the Lady Blue Devils will match wits vs. GACC, and they will look for their first ever win in the series against the C2 powerhouse. GACC is a quick team that should present a serious challenge after two Wynot routs last week. Osmond will be a conference contest that always brings added weight.

Last week’s results: Beat Bloomfield 67-27, beat Winside, 71-16. Coach Steve Wieseler Comments: “This week’s games present some challenges. We will have to be sharp with our press break which isn’t something we have seen yet this year and we also will be matched up against some very good guards who can really shoot the three. Our team is improving and working hard at the little things. Our rebounding has improved since our first Jamboree game as well as our ball movement on offense. We are also happy with the improvement in our fast break offense.”
