Commissioners get an update from county library representatives

HARTINGTON — Cedar County libraries have seen quite a few improvements and updates in the past few years.

Library representatives Tami Anderson of Hartington, Peggy Leiting of Randolph, Trista Stone of Laurel and Economic Development Coordinator Chris Rasmussen of Laurel met with County Commissioners July 23 to discuss library funding.

Each year, the county provides funding to assist the libraries with their expenses and to support the many programs they offer to the public.

An update was provided by each library member on specific highlights for their respective library over the past year.

Leiting said the Lied Randolph Public Library offered 272 different programs for the community including adult education. The library recently completed a digitization project of the Randolph Times.

Trista Stone of Laurel said they have increased storage because they have run out of space for their books . They are also working closely with the senior center and they want to begin working on digitizing the last 126 years of the Laurel Advocate.
