City hires new assistant clerk

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday was introduced to new assistant city clerk Marti Carlson.

The Council also approved building permits for Preston Leise, Eric Sage and Alton Heimes. Leise will add a handicap ramp to his Leise Bookkeeping and Tax Service office. Heimes plans to put a new addition on his house and Sage will put in a garden shed.

Carlson, a Newcastle native, began working for the city a few days ago.

Carlson graduated with the last class of Newcastle High School in 2014 just before the school consolidated with Hartington.

During her time there, she enjoyed playing any sport she could, she said.

After graduating, Carlson moved to Norfolk to pursue an education in business administration at Northeast Community College. She was a student there for three years before moving to Fremont to work at Pinnacle Bank for another three years.

She recently moved back to this area and she now lives in Maskell.

She is glad she moved closer to family.

“The big city life wasn’t my thing,” Carlson says, “This is where all my family lives, and I was the odd duck who left for a few years.”

Carlson will be in the city office during the week, but during her free time, she has other interests.

“I like being outside hiking, gardening and that kind of stuff,” she said, “Just spending time with friends and family is good with me.”
