Charles Henry “Carly” Promes

AURORA — Charles Henry “Carly” Promes, 79, Aurora, died June 26, 2021, at Country House Residence, Grand Island.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., July 12, at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, Wynot, with Rev. An Duy Phan officiating.

Burial will be at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Cemetery, St. James.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Michael, TJ, Spencer, Garrett, Chad, Landry and Kollin.

Honorary Pallbearers are Carly’s brothers and sons.

Charles Henry ‘Carly’ Promes was born Nov. 16, 1941, in St. James, to Frank and Erma (Noecker) Promes. He was baptized in the Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church Nov. 19, 1941, attended St. James Catholic School until eighth grade, then graduated from Wynot High School. He married Sharon ‘Shari’ (Jacobsen) Rissler June 20, 1981.

Carly worked as a maintenance engineer and in the beef packing Industry. He was an avid horseman and likely logged more miles on the back of a horse than in the seat of a vehicle.

Carly and Shari enjoyed their horse, goat, basset hound and occasional cow farm outside of Aurora, entertaining those who wanted riding lessons or to simply lean over a tailgate and talk a spell.

Carly is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon ‘Shari’ Promes; children, Jeff (Gina) Promes, Hillsboro, Texas; Mark Promes, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Robin Miles of Hillsboro, Texas; and Brett (Nancy) Rissler, Frisco, Texas; three brothers, Tom (LeeAnn) Promes, Seward; Larry Promes, Crofton; Mike Promes, Virginia; a sister, Jeannie (Robert) Donner, Crofton; nine grandchildren, Kelli (Chad) Reedy, Hillsboro, Texas; Kenzie (Landry) Lee, Hillsboro, Texas; Michael (Erin) Promes, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Lauren Promes, Minneapolis, Minn.; Spencer (Courtney) Promes, Harrisburg, S.D.; Taylor Promes, Sioux Falls, S.D.; TJ Miles, Hillsboro, Texas; Shelby (Kollin) Miller, Merriam, Kan.; and Garrett (Tara) Rissler, Bellevue; six great-grandchildren: Kaydence Reedy, Witten Lee, Maxwell Promes, Shay Promes, Desmond Rissler and Myra Rissler; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Erma Promes.
