Chad David Mathiason

HARTINGTON — Chad David Mathiason, 49, Hartington, died May 9, 2023, at his residence under hospice care.

Memorial services will be May 21 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating.

Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date.

There will be a visitation with the family one hour prior to services.

Chad David was born Oct. 3, 1973, to Claude Alvin Dean and Bonnell June (Benjamin) Mathiason. He grew up in Hartington and graduated from Hartington High School in 1992. While in high school, Chad worked for Burnell Herbolshimer at Foodtown. He went to UTI Trade School in Omaha for two years to study mechanics. Chad then went to work for Dick Donner, North Central Builders, Dennis Brodersen at Northstar, and also worked for Chuck Meirose on the farm. His last employment was for the City of Hartington for the last six years.

Chad enjoyed catfish fishing and he loved visiting with people. Chad is survived by his parents, Claude and Bonnell Mathiason, Hartington; a son, Jordon Mathiason, Hartington; a sister, Janell (Gail) Stratman, Stromsberg; a brother, Brant (Kathy) Mathiason, Brookings, S.D.; nieces and nephews, Crystal (Dallas) Schilling, Malcolm; Abby (Dylan) Dulas, Harrisburg, S.D.; Ryan Mathiason, Brookings, S.D.; Taylor (Jared) Stander, Ames, Iowa; Morgan Stratman, De-Forest, Wis.; Erica Stratman, Lincoln; and two great-nieces, Emalynn Schilling and Abigail Schilling, Malcolm.

Chad was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a brother, Derek, Jan. 4, 2017, at the age of 49.
