Center is still patiently waiting for OK to open back up

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — It is nearly August, and still the Hartington Senior Center is still waiting on permission to reopen from the Governor.

There are some signs that things may be relaxed sometime soon, as area health departments have started to relax the reopening standards in phase four, but as of now, the Northeast Neb. Health Dept. has not done this.

When the permission does come for senior centers to reopen, there will likely be some caveats to keep certain precautions in place. Social distancing, and wearing masks probably will be among the top items. We hope it will still allow for carryout meals and home delivered meals as we have done for the past four-and-a-half months.

It should go without saying, but please do not come to the Center if you are not feeling well. It might not be COVID-19, but it could be. If it is, then we have another problem with trying to curtail the outbreak. It simply boils down to being cautious. Most senior citizens appear to be following that advice and it will be extremely necessary if we get the permission to reopen.

Still, we are anxious to have people back in the building enjoying themselves and taking part in social activities. It will be most welcome to see our friends again.

One quick thanks to those who participate in our Sunday carryout dinner events. The name of the game for us is still number of people who attend our meals and not so much finances. These Sunday events and our St. Helena trips once a month help keep our numbers up where they need to be to meet all Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging required standards.

ACTIVITIES

Activities will resume at the Center as soon as we are given permission to reopen. The reopening could be only for meals at first or it could include all events at the Center. We will try to let you know what is happening as soon as there is good news on the reopening front.
