Cedar Hoops teams post 7-2 record at Wayne Tourney

WAYNE — The Cedar Hoops youth boys basketball teams followed up an 8-1 record last week with a 7-2 record last weekend in Wayne, along with two team titles.

The sixth grade boys cruised to a 3-0 record for the weekend, beating Elkhorn Valley 59-9 and Ponca 56-17 in the first two matches. In the championship game the sixth graders raced out to an early 25-0 lead en route to a 51-22 victory over Wayne.

The 4-5 grade boys combined to form two teams once again. The 4-5 grade Trojans dropped their first two games before bouncing back with a 29-point victory in the final contest against Plainview.

The 4-5 grade Saints captured first in their division with wins against Norfolk Catholic and Plainview in the first two rounds. In the championship game against Ponca, the Saints held an early 12-4 lead before being held scoreless for the next 26 minutes of the contest. The Saints trailed 25-12 with 3:30 remaining in the contest, but came back in dramatic fashion to win 26-25, capping off a 3-0 weekend.
