Cedar, HNS join forces on golf course
HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic golf team took to the course with a new look, but some very familiar faces.
The team is now a co-op between Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle.
For the past several years, Hartington-Newcastle and Crofton had co-oped their girls golf teams, but Crofton decided to drop the sport last school year.
This makes the third athletic co-op between the two local schools. They also share cross country and wrestling teams.
Cedar Catholic golf coach Sheila Jueden said she is expecting big things from this year’s team.
“We graduated Ireland (Biltoft) and she will be missed. She had a great year for us last year,” said Jueden, who is entering her 10th year as Cedar’s head coach.
Biltoft finished 40th in last year’s Class C State Golf Tournament.
Biltoft is the only loss from last year’s team, though.
Everyone else from last year is returning, as well as Hartington-Newcastle’s Delaney Sudbeck.
“We will have seven girls — a solid five with two extra, so that’s great,” Jueden said.
Despite limited practice time, the girls are already looking sharp, Jueden said, adding that the team as a whole is averaging 52.6 per nine-hole round.
The season gets underway Thursday when they travel to O’Neill for an invitational.
