Cedar, HNS both have big conference games this week

Posted in:

CEDAR CATHOLIC

Games this Week: Friday vs. Wayne; Saturday vs. GACC

Outlook: The Trojans got one game in and fell 6-3 with a loss to a top South Dakota program. Tate Thoene scored 19 and Brady Steffen added 12 but Paul Bruns’ 38-point performance was too much.

Last week’s results: Lost to Dakota Valley 92-66.

Coach Matt Steffen Comments: “I thought we played a really good team pretty well for three of the four quarters.  The second quarter was a disaster for us.  We got outscored 28 – 10 in the second and turned the ball over eight times.  Eight turnovers is a full game for us at times. The Bruns kid is the real deal – he made six of seven threes, was 7-of-10 inside the arc and was 6-of-7 from the line.

“Wayne has won nine of its last 11 games and they are playing well. GACC is 6-4, but will play four more games before they play us.”

HARTINGTON-NEWCASTLE Games this Week: Friday at Crofton; Tuesday vs. Plainview.

Outlook: The Wildcats moved to .500 with a solid win at home against Homer. Shaye Morten went off for 21 points while Jake Peitz and Sam Harms each scored 14 points apiece. Now it gets real as the last few weeks of the season are ready to go.

Last week: Beat Homer 62-50

WYNOT

Games this Week: Friday vs. Winnebago

Outlook: The Blue Devils are slowly getting things in order and their 5-8 record does not symbolize how much better the coaching staff has seen its players become. This week is a big one for gaining momentum as the playoffs approach.

Last week’s results: Winnebago game snowed out. Coach Lee Heimes Comments: “Winnebago likes to play the game in transition and shoot threes and get lay-ups.  They take a lot of chances to get steals and turnovers.  We need to take care of the ball and be patient on offense. We are playing some good teams this week it will be a good test for us.”
