Cedar golfers earn three medals at their own meet

HARTINGTON — As the girls’ golf season winds down towards conference, districts and state, the Cedar Catholic golf team hosted its own invitational Sept. 19 and had three golfers earn medals on the way to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team tournament.

Wayne won the team title after firing a 396, Pierce was next at 397, Laurel-Concord- Coleridge was at 412 and the Lady Trojans were next at 433.

“The girls played well and continue to improve,” Cedar Catholic golf coach Rob Bengston said. “It was great to see three of our girls earn medals.”

Riley Haschke of Wayne was the medalist with an 18-hole total of 89, teammate Joslyne Johnson was second with a 92 and Keli Shermer of Pierce also with a 92.

Maci Schommer paced the Lady Trojans, carding an even 100 for seventh place.

Mya Dickes was 13th with a 108 and Kristine Becker was 15th with a 110.

Last week, the Lady Trojans were third in a triangular with Pierce and Wayne at the Wayne Country Club.

Wayne won the triangular with a 194, Pierce was second after a team total of 203 and Cedar Catholic was nine shots back of the Lady Bluejays after shooting 212.

Schommer was third individually with a 48 while Johnson and Riley shot 45 and 46, respectively, to take first and second.

Cedar Catholic is set to travel to Wayne for a meet on Sept. 22 before hosting the Mid-State Conference golf tournament on Sept. 29.
