Cedar girls will take on HLHF Friday night

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic girls basketball team used a decisive 57-38 win to advance to this Friday’s District title game.

The winner of the 7 p.m. contest against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family at Norfolk High School will advance to next week’s Class D1 State Tournament.

Cedar Catholic, 11-13, will be a big underdog in Friday’s game.

Defeating the Humphrey Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs won’t be an easy task, said head coach Craig Wortmann.

“We are the 13th seed and HLHF is the fourth seed,” Wortmann said.

Wortmann said HLHF does a good job of controlling the paint, but can also move the ball around well.

“This will be a tough matchup for us as they are big on the inside and have very good guard play on the outside. We will take the week to prepare for them and find a way to slow them down,” he said.

Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family has been rated in the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star all season long.

HLHF is gunning for its third straight trip to the state tourney. They lost in the first round the last two years.

Cedar is trying to return to State after making the Big Dance in 2018, but missing out on State last year.
