Cedar girls put together 1-2 tourney mark

Posted in:

NORFOLK — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans ended the MidState Conference Tournament Saturday with a 1-2 record.

Crofton won the tourney title with a 45-30 decision over Norfolk Catholic.

Crofton started the tourney out by defeating Cedar 53-39 in first-round action, knocking the Lady Trojans into the consolation round.

Cedar then defeated Pierce in the consolation round, advancing to the fifth-place game against O’Neill. The Lady Eagles edged Cedar 49-46 in that game for the consolation trophy.

A third quarter letdown did in the Lady Trojans against O’Neill.

The Lady Eagles raced out to a 16-10 first-quarter lead, but Cedar outscored O’Neill 16-12 in the second frame to cut the halftime deficit to just two points — 28-26.

The Cedar offense went cold to start the second half, only managing three points, while the Eagles hit for nine to take a 37-29 lead into the final frame.

The Lady Trojans put together a big rally in the final eight minutes, outscoring O’Neill 17-11, but it wasn’t enough to earn the ‘W’.

Cedar wraps up the regular season this week when Homer comes to town.
