Cedar girls earn wins over Homer, Randolph
HOMER — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans set out Thursday to prove they were more than worthy of their new pre-season State rating.
The Omaha World Herald listed Cedar seventh in this year’s Class D1 pre-season ratings. The Trojans finished last year rated fourth in Class D1.
Cedar got off to a good start on the new season, beating Homer and Randolph in the seasonopening triangular last week.
“We have been doing a really good job on serving and serve receive,” CCHS head coach Denae Buss said. “Every player was able to contribute to our wins.”
In beating Homer, the Lady Trojans got six kills from Laney Kathol while eight other players each recorded two kills apiece.
Kathol and Brynn Wortman had three and two aces apiece and Megan Heimes had 10 digs.
Against Randolph, the Lady Trojans were paced by Kathol’s eight kills while Brooklyn Kuehn pitched in with four terminations. Kathol added three aces.
Kathol and Wortmann dominated up front with nine and eight total blocks apiece as Heimes finished with a team-high eight digs.
Cady Uttecht ended up with 11 assists.
The Lady Trojans opened the home slate Tuesday against Lutheran Northeast and will travel to the Scotus Tournament on Saturday.
“The Scotus tournament is full of very good teams,” Buss said. “We play Columbus Lakeview the first round who is a solid team.”
