Cedar girls are MidStates champs

NORFOLK - The Lady Trojans volleyball team is the Mid State conference champion for the second straight year, earning three sweeps last week for the title.

Cedar Catholic beat O’Neill, Battle Creek, and Norfolk Catholic, each in three sets. Cedar cruised to victory in each match, as the team rebounded from a loss to Wayne at a triangular before the conference tournament. 

The Lady Trojans beat the 7 seed O’Neill in the first round, 3 seed Battle Creek in the second game, and 4 seed Norfolk Catholic in the championship game.

Once again, Cedar was led by senior leadership throughout the tournament. Maddie Wieseler led the team in kills in two of the games with Cattau leading the other. Wieseler also led her team in set assists, and blocks in one of the matches. Cattau led her team in blocks and digs in a match. Senior Brianna Miller also led her team, with game-highs in ace serves and blocks.

With the conference championship, Cedar also clinched a top seed in the Subdistrict tournament which started on Monday. Big Red was 25-4 before heading into that postseason tournament.
