Cedar eliminated by eventual state champs

LINCOLN — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans couldn’t quite get over the hump against Diller-Odell in Friday morning’s Class D1 state semifinal game.

The Lady Trojans stayed right with D-O all game long, but were not able to pull ahead in the end, and ended up falling in three straight sets.

Cedar started the contest out on the right foot, opening the game on a Brynn Wortmann kill, but Diller-Odell quickly worked its way back in front, eventually building a four-point lead before Cedar charged back to pull within one point, 11-10, on a Diller-Odell hitting error.

Second-seeded D-O eventually worked its way to the 25-23 win. They continued their momentum into the second set to pick up the 25-19 decision.

The third set was a true back and forth affair before Diller-Odell came up big at the end for the three-point win.

Cedar was led at the net by Abby Hochstein’s 10 kills. Brynn Wortmann had a solid game from the service line with three ace serves.
