Cedar earns Class C All Sports title

Posted in:

OMAHA — The Omaha World Herald honored Cedar Catholic last week as the Class C All-Sports grand champion.

Cedar was honored in June by being named the NSAA Cup winner in their division. That honor includes all extracurricular activities. The World Herald award focuses solely on sports.

The school’s best finish was a Class D-1 volleyball championship. The Trojan football team earned a state runner-up trophy, while both the boys and girls basketball teams finished with third-place trophies. The Cedar boys finished the state track meet in fifth place, while the girls ended the state meet tied for ninth. The joint Hartington-Newcastle-Cedar Catholic boys cross country team finished in 10th place at the state meet.

These finishes gave Cedar 78 points in the All Sports competition, easily outdistancing runner-up Malcolm, which finished with 58 points.

Another MidStates Conference school, Pierce, led the boys standings. Pierce was Class C-1 football champion and placed fourth in wrestling, sixth in the World Herald’s basketball poll and seventh in golf. Yet another MidStates foe, Norfolk Catholic finished second in the boys’ competition.
