Cedar County Tourism Board greenlights film, makes more funding available

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Cedar County Tourism Board reviewed applications for projects and events that will bring visitors to our region. On the docket was a request from a film production team for The Phantom Limbs of the Rollow Sisters in Cedar County. The film project is based on a book written by UNL instructor Timothy Schaffert. If the film chooses Cedar County as its location, the CCTB will grant $2000 to the project in 2019 and another $2000 in 2020, because the film will promote Cedar County.

Other funded applications included:

Cedar County Historical Society - $2500 - Humidifier/Ceiling fans

City of Laurel - $2500 – Digital sign

In other business, the CCTB approved moving $15,000 from the promotion budget into the budget for improving physical structures that draw visitors to Cedar County. The committee recognized Leon Pedersen for his long-time service to the committee. Pedersen moved to Knox County, so is no longer eligible to serve. The committee needs a member from the northwest part of Cedar County.

March 31, 2020 is the next deadline for submitting funding requests to publicize events, or to improve physical structures that draw visitors to Cedar County. Entities can apply once each calendar year for up to $2500 in bricks and mortar improvement and $1000 in publicity support. If funded, applicants must submit a project report to the CCTB, including documentation of expenses. Reports must be postmarked no later than 60 days after the date of the event that was supported or the date by which the bricks and mortar project was completed. If funded organizations do not submit timely reports, they are not be eligible for future funding.

Applications and reports should be emailed to Julia Kleinschmit, CCTB chair at julia.kleinschmit@yahoo.com or mailed to Julia Kleinschmit, 101 S. 564 Ave, Hartington NE 68739. Email is preferred.
