Cedar County invaded by Democrats prior to the 1938 election

Posted in:

On Thursday, Nov. 3, 1938, Cedar County was “invaded” by a caravan of Democrats.

The group was making a last-minute campaign swing through Northeast Nebraska prior to the coming election.

Stops that day included Magnet, Randolph, Belden, Laurel, Coleridge and Hartington.

Each candidate spoke on Main street before moving on to the next town.

Neither the gist of their remarks nor the number of people who turned out to hear them is known today.

In those days, political campaigns generally began a couple of months before the election rather than the day after the last election as seems to be common these days.

Sioux City is currently being invaded by Democrats hoping to unseat President Trump in the 2020 election.
