Cedar County athletes earn All State football honors

HARTINGTON — The winter sports season is in full swing, but some Cedar County athletes were recognized in All-State football selections released over the weekend.

Cedar Catholic had two players selected to the All-State Teams.

Rex Becker was selected as an offensive lineman by the Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World-Herald, Huskerland Prep Report and by the 1,000-yard guy Bobby Mills, of the Grand Island Independent. This is Becker’s second straight First Team All-State nod.

Jacob Keiser was selected as an offensive athlete/ returner by the Lincoln newspaper, Huskerland Prep Report and by Mills at the Independent. Keiser earned an All-State Honorable Mention by the Omaha World-Herald.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge also had a player recognized as an All-State recipient. Junior defensive back Noah Schutte was recognized as an All-State defensive athlete by the Lincoln Journal Star. Schutte is now a two-sport All-State athlete, having earned All-State basketball honors as a sophomore.

Wausa’s Ethan Baue earned All-State honors by the Grand Island Independent and the Omaha World-Herald as a kicker. Baue went 2-4 on extra point attempts, and 6-8 on eld goal tries. The junior set a career-long kick this season, making a 43-yard eld goal against Randolph.

Several area athletes earned Honorable Mention status from either the Lincoln or Omaha newspaper. The Lincoln outlet recognized Josh Pinkelman and Eric Hoesing from Cedar Catholic; Izac Reifenrath from LCC; Lincoln McPhillips, Ethan Koch, and Turner Korth from Hartington-Newcastle; Ghatlin Hegge, Ethan Baue, Drew Munter, and Tyson Kaiser from

Wausa; and Landon Wieseler from Wynot.

The Omaha newspaper gave honorable mentions to Keiser, Pinkelman, and Hoesing from Cedar; and McPhillips, Koch, Korth and Shaye Morten from HNS.

Of the area players recognized, a few will be returning for a senior season next year. Becker and Keiser at Cedar Catholic are both juniors with one more school year left before graduation. LCC’s Schutte and Wausa’s Baue are also both juniors. Of those recognized with Honorable Mentions, Cedar’s Hoesing and Hartington-Newcastle’s Morten both just completed their junior football seasons.
