Cedar Catholic golf team looks for more in 2024

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic boys’ golf coach Rick Kuehn welcomed a nice mix of experienced and lightly experienced golfers to the course this spring, led by a couple of seniors and a couple of sophomores.

Returners in 2024 with varsity experience include the sophomores, Maverick Heine and Langston Christensen, and the seniors, Sam and Harrison Kuehn.

“We are a really young team, with two seniors, two juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen,” Coach Kuehn said. “But we’ll get to work and hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get something going this spring.”

As usual, the Trojans will compete against the best golfers northeast Nebraska has to offer throughout the spring.

“We’ll tee it up with Ponca, Pierce, Battle Creek, Wayne and Crofton more than once,” Coach Kuehn said. “These are always solid teams that are capable of shooting low scores.”

Cedar Catholic was slated to open the season with a couple of triangulars — one at home on April 2 and one on the road at Stanton on April 4. Weather has wreaked havoc with the early meets, though.

The tournament season will open at Cedar View Country Club in Laurel on April 11, followed by a triangular in Pierce on April 16.

The Trojan varsity will play out in O’Neill on April 18 and the junior varsity will play in the Osmond Invitational at Rolling Hills Country Club near Wausa on April 20 before a dual meet with Plainview on April 22 for the entire team.

Cedar Catholic will close out a busy April with the Hartington Invitational on April 23, the Pierce Invitational at Battle Creek on April 27 and the Mid-State Conference Tournament in O’Neill on April 30.

The Trojans will open May at the Randolph Invitational on May 6 before hosting the C-3 District Meet on May 14 at the Hartington Golf Course.

Other district teams are: Battle Creek, Crofton, Elkhorn Valley, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lutheran High Northeast, Norfolk Catholic, Pender, Ponca, Stanton, Summerland, Tri County Northeast, Wakefield, West Holt and Winnebago.

The Class C State Golf Championships are set for May 21-22 at the Elks Country Club in Columbus.
