Cedar boys pick up three more wins
HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Trojans picked up their fourth straight win with close victories over Battle Creek and Lutheran High Northeast last week.
Cedar, 14-6, has now won five of its last six games.
The Trojans travelled to Homer Tuesday for an easy, 77-55, win over the Knights.
Coach Matt Steffen’s crew followed that up with a lopsided, 68-37, home win over Battle Creek Thursday.
The Trojans then wound up the week with a Saturday night game in Norfolk, defeating Lutheran High Northeast, 65-61.
In Saturday’s contest, the Trojans got off to a great start, jumping out to a 21-10 firstquarter advantage. They didn’t let up in the second frame either, as the Trojans outscored the Eagles, 22-11, to take a 43-21 lead into the break.
LHNE regrouped to outscore Cedar, 40-22, in the second half and put a scare into the Trojans, but Cedar was able to hang on for the win.
On Thursday, the Trojans jumped out to a huge first-quarter advantage and never looked back.
Cedar raced to a 17-5 first-quarter lead, then extended that lead to 31-13 at the break. The Trojans doubled up the Braves, 20-10, to open the second half, then began to use their bench to close out the game.
The Cedar offense was led in the contest by Tate Thoene’s 16-point effort.
Cedar got off to a slow start against Homer, earning a 13-11 first-quarter advantage, then out-pointing the Knights, 19-18, in the second frame.
The Trojans came out of the locker room looking like a new team, though, putting together a 23-12 third-quarter run to take control. Cedar then sealed the win with a 22-14 fourth-quarter outburst.
The Trojan offense was once again led by Tate Thoene, who popped in a game-high 28 points. He was followed closely by Charlie Schroeder who hit for 26 in the contest.
