Cedar boys are in second after first day at State

Posted in:

OMAHA — The Cedar Catholic boys track team got off to a good start in the Class C State Track Meet at Omaha Burke Stadium.

The Cedar boys ended the day in second place.

The MidState Conference had an even better start to the State Tournament.

Battle Creek leads all teams with 22 points, while Cedar is second with 20 and Norfolk Catholic is third at 18 points.

Cedar Catholic had two gold medals during Friday's action.

Carson Noecker earned a state record in earning the gold in the 3,200-meter run. His effort was also the fastest of all four classes, earning him the All Class Gold.

The Cedar Catholic 3200-meter relay team also earned gold, but it took a momumental effort in order to cross the finish line first.

Cedar had to recover from an early fall in the race. Carson Noecker worked his way through nearly the entire field and into third place during his leg of the race. He then handed the baton to Carson Arens, who passed the final two runners to take the lead and the win.

Action resumes early Saturday.
