Cattau's layup completes Cedar comeback

Posted in:

WAYNE - Thursday night’s Sub- District title game between Cedar Catholic and Ponca had fans on the edge of their seats.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth in the second half. An inbounds pass from Maddie Wieseler to Jada Cattau for a layup in the closing seconds gave Cedar a 46-45 point lead with six seconds left.

There were just enough ticks on the clock for Ponca to try to regain and take the lead.

Ponca’s Sydni Hughes drove up the floor and passed to Grace Salmen for a layup before the buzzer. The ball hit off the backboard, then rattled off the far side of the rim, giving Cedar the upset win to snap the Lady Indians 17-game win streak.

The win clinched a spot in the District Finals for Cedar and forced Ponca to settle for a Wild Card spot to make it into the District Finals.

Cedar and Ponca battled in a close game throughout the full 32 minutes.
