Carol Heller

WISNER — Carol Heller, 53, Wisner, died Dec. 2, 2018, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 3-7 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., and will continue Friday, from 9 a.m. until the service time, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wisner.

Funeral services will be Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wisner, with Fr. Vincent Sunguti celebrating the Mass.  

Interment will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.  

Minnick Funeral Home, Wisner, is assisting the family with the arrangements..

Carol Ann (Schmidt) Heller was born April 25, 1965, at Yankton, S.D., to Mark and Dorothy (Hoebelheinrich) Schmidt.  She grew up on the family farm south of Hartington, and graduated from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School in 1984.  Carol worked in Norfolk as a housekeeper at the Immaculata Convent for several years and also at the Uptown Restaurant.

She married Nick Heller Oct. 23, 1993, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington.  The couple lived south of Wisner.  Carol worked at the Wisner Care Center prior to being a stay at home mom to her two daughters.  She later worked at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Rectory.

Carol was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, it’s Ladies Guild, and helped teach CCD.  

Carol loved to draw, going on walks, and her animals.  She was a very humble person and cared for anyone she had met along the way.

Survivors include her husband, Nick Heller, Wisner; daughters, Kate Heller, Omaha, and Jill Heller, Vermillion, S.D.; father, Mark Schmidt, Hartington; mother-in-law, Evelyn Helle, Wisner; brothers, Kenny and Sheila Schmidt, Hartington, and Marty Schmidt, Hartington; sister, Gail and Guy Ormiston, Waxahachie, Texas; and sister-in-law, Geanie Schmidt, Marysville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Schmidt; brother, Gerard Schmidt; and her father-in-law, Melvern “Butch” Heller.
