HARTINGTON — Everything is in order for this Friday's annual holiday extravaganza in Hartington.

Christmas lights have been hung and the decorations are going up, as area residents make their final preparations for Friday's big event — the 24th annual Candlelight Christmas celebration.

There will be several activities for people's enjoyment during the event, including the highlight of the night — the 7 p.m. Lighted Vehicle Parade.

The Hartington Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the celebration, which has the theme of 'A Country Christmas' this year.

Several businesses are planning open houses. As usual, there should be plenty of eating options available that night, as well.

To help area residents get in the holiday spirit, the Chamber is also sponsoring a holiday lighting contest, which will have separate categories for Hartington businesses and homes.

'We're doing that in conjunction with Candlelight Christmas,' Chamber President Karen Flamig said. 'We want the downtown all lit up during the parade.'

Check out the schedule and business specials inside this week's Cedar County News for more details.
