HARTINGTON — The Christmas lights are being hung and the decorations are being dusted off as area residents prepare for next week's big event.

The 24th annual Candlelight Christmas celebration will be held Friday Nov. 17.

There will be several activities for people's enjoyment during the event, including the Lighted Vehicle Parade at 7 p.m.

The Hartington Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the celebration, which has the theme of 'A Country Christmas' this year.

'It's just a really great time to come to Hartington and check out all the cool little shops that we have and be with fellow friends and neighbors,' Chamber President Karen Flamig said.

Several businesses are planning open houses. As usual, there should be plenty of eating options available that night, as well.

To help area residents get in the Holiday spirit, the Chamber is also sponsoring a Holiday lighting contest, which will have separate categories for Hartington businesses and homes.

'We're doing that in conjunction with Candlelight Christmas,' Flamig said. 'We want the downtown all lit up during the parade.'

Check next week's Cedar County News for more details.
