Blue Devils will face a tough road if they want to repeat

Posted in:

LINCOLN - The seniors on this year’s Wynot Lady Blue Devil girls basketball team have one goal in mind - a third state basketball championship to close out their careers on.

Wynot is looking for its third straight state title and their 11th trip to the state title game in the past 12 years.

Wynot is the sixth seed in this year’s tourney and will face off against third seed Chambers Wheeler Central in their 6:30 p.m. Wednesday opener.

CWC is moving down to D2 after defeating Cedar Catholic for third-place honors in last year’s D1 State Tourney.

CWC is paced by a veteran group with five seniors scoring at least 150 points on the year.

The team is led by Morgan Ramsey, who knocks down an average of 20.2 points per game.

Another senior, Michelle Koenig is also a force to be reckoned with as she has hit for 216 points so far this season.

Wynot (19-6) made it to state after a second straight District title victory at Valentine. The Lady Devils defeated Sioux County 64-37 to advance to this year’s Elite Eight.

The Lady Devils are led by a balanced offensive attack and a tough, pressing defense.

The Devils have five girls that have scored 100 points or more this season.

Karley Heimes leads the charge with 318 points on the season.

Heimes is also a force on defense, controlling the boards for a team-high 195 rebounds this season and leading the team in steals with 77.

Krystal Sudbeck, Autumn Lawson and Emersyn Sudbeck also make it tough on opposing offenses, as all three have recorded over 50 steals this year.
