Blue Devils lose to Pender in heart-breaker

PENDER — The Wynot Blue Devils travelled to Pender to do battle with the Pendragons on Friday night in what was predicted to be a tightly contested matchup. The game would end up that way but it did not go as scripted. Wynot would struggle mightly In the first half but rallied in the second half to make a game of it. The game did go down to the wire with Pender earning the 35-33 win.

The Blue Devils Dylan Heine would take top scoring honors in the game hitting four threes on his way to 16 points. Carson Wieseler would help out with nine points.

Pender got 13 points from Alex Roth, 9 points Aiden Beckman and 8 points from Zander Welsh in a balanced attack.

Defense dominated the first quarter. Alex Roth hit a three pointer for the Pendragons and had a pair of baskets.

Wynot got a trey by Dylan Heine and a basket inside from Kasen Koch as Pender held a 8-5 first period lead.

The Blue Devils offense was sputtering in the second quarter as they missed some bunnies and had several threes rim out.

It was their lowest offensive quarter of the season only hitting a single field goal by Dylan Heine.

Pender would get threes from Aiden Beckmann and Alex Roth as they built a 18-7 halftime lead.

The Blue Devil defense held the Pendragons to just two baskets in the third quarter, and the offense came to life and staged a comeback.

Dylan Heine led the way with a pair of treys, plus a conventional basket for seven points. Charlie Schroeder worked the low post and hit some free throws for five points as Wynot went on a 16-4 run to earn a 23 -22 lead going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter Dylan Heine traded threes with Pender’s Alex Roth.

Free throws by Owen Kneifl put Pender back up by five points. Carson Wieseler hit a long three-pointer for Wynot to cut the lead to one point. A Kneifl free throw made the lead two points with 3.2 seconds left. A long pass was intercepted and Pender escaped with the 35-33 win.

Pender’s record increased to 10-3 while Wynot’s fell to 8-3.

WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils had a fairly easy time on Thursday as they dispatched the Tri County NE Wolfpack 52-34.

Wynot jumped out to a big 31-10 halftime lead as Coach Heimes’ bench would rotate in to get in on the scoring action.

The Blue Devils had 10 players get into the scoring book, led by Charlie Schroeder and Dylan Heine with eight points each. Carson Wieseler and Kasen Koch each contributed seven points to the balanced attack.

Tri County NE got 11 second half points from Hunter Heikes and Thatcher Lamp hit a pair of treys on his way to eight points for the visiting Wolfpack.

In the opening quarter Tri County got a three pointer each from Thatcher Lamp and Micheal Pickens. Wynot countered with treys from Joseph Sudbeck and Andrew Haberman along with 6 points in the paint from Charlie Schroeder to race to an 18-8 early advantage.

In the second quarter it was all Blue Devils as Zack Foxhoven, Dylan Heine and Carson Wieseler rained in three pointers and a 13-2 run put Wynot up big 31-10 at halftime.

The Wolfpack showed some fight in the third quarter as they got eight points from Hunter Heikes and bucket each from Ben Jorgensen and Thatcher Lamp. Wynot would not let them gain ground as a three pointer from Dylan Heine along with a basket each from Kasen Koch, Charlie Schroeder and Carson Wieseler helped the Blue Devils maintain the big lead.

In the final quarter Andrew Haberman and Devin Brummer came off the Blue Devils bench to hit three pointers. The Wolfpack also got a trey each from Michael Pickens and Thatcher Lamp but this was decided earlier as Wynot improved their season mark to 8-2 with the 52-34 win.
