Betty M. Skalla

Laurel — Betty M. Skalla, 85, Laurel, died Nov. 19, 2020, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.

A memorial service for Betty will be 10:30 a.m., Jan. 8. at Evangelical Free Church, Concord.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.

Betty was born Sept. 24, 1935, to Francis and Maude (Haney) Lyons in Kearney. She grew up in Pavillion, Wyo., and attended school there. Betty helped her mother at home with the kids and also helped other families take care of their children. Throughout her life, Betty lived in several different places between Wyoming and Nebraska. Most recently, she lived in Concord before moving to the Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.

Betty was married to William “Bill” Skalla. She worked at a nursing home in her early 20s and spent the majority of her life as a homemaker.

She enjoyed going to church, going for walks, taking care of children, watching western movies, doing puzzles, and being outdoors.

She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Concord.

Betty is survived by her sisters, Bernice Lyons, Laurel; Beverly Marten Mitchell, S.D.; Maxine (Dale) Smith, Martinsburg; and Elsie Bierce, Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers, Bob Lyons, St. Louis, Mo., and Delmar Lyons, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Maude (Haney Lyons; brothers, Gage, Bud, Jim, Bill, and Ronnie Lyons; and sister, Virginia Lyons.
