Becker is moving up the scoring charts

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic senior Matthew Becker continues to charge up the all-time scoring lists at Cedar Catholic.

Becker’s uncle, Neil Wortmann, currently sits at third on the All-Time scoring list with 1,361 points, but the Trojan senior is hot on his trail.

With the final regular season game approaching on Friday at Norfolk Catholic, Becker is expected to surpass his uncle.

The senior currently sits at 1,345 career points and is averaging 18.6 points per game this season.

As a freshman, Becker scored 253 points, that increased to 320 points as a sophomore for the second most on the team that year.

Last year, he scored exactly 400 points on the season, averaging 16 points per game.

If Becker surpasses Wortmann as expected on Friday, that would most likely be where he would sit in the record books.

Sitting in second is Ryan Samelson with 1,670 points, and atop the All-Time Scoring list is James Kaiser with 1,709 points.

Becker is only the ninth Cedar Catholic boys basketball player to reach 1,000 points.

For Becker to advance further on the list, it would take a remarkable effort by the entire Trojan team.

Besides needing a strong showing against Norfolk Catholic this week, the team would then need to sweep its SubDistrict and District foes to advance to the State Tourney.
