COLERIDGE — Arlene Ruth Patefield, 90, Coleridge, died Feb, 23, 2023, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge.

Funeral Services were Feb. 27 at the United Methodist Church, Laurel, with Rev. Murry J. Johnston officiating. Burial was in the Laurel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arlene’s grandchildren, Jason Patefield, Trent Patefield, Travis Patefield, Brandon Guern, Jose DeLaCruz, Hunter Wiese, and Sebastian DeLaCruz.

Honorary pallbearers were Arlene’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

Visitation, with a prayer service and Eastern Star service, was Sunday at the church, and continued one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

The Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel, assisted with the arrangements. Arlene was born April 21, 1932, at Wayne, to Walter and Ruth Ellen Marie (Andersen) Hansen. In 1939, Arlene’s family moved north of Allen. She attended country school and graduated from Allen High School. The school taught Normal Teachers Training and she graduated in 1949 and then taught country school north of Emerson for one year. Arlene married Milo Patefield June 4, 1950, in Martinsburg. They moved into his parent’s home north of Logan Center Church and his parents moved into Coleridge. Arlene worked in the kitchen at Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge, from 1992 to 2000. In 2007, they sold the farm and moved into Laurel. She has been a resident of Park View Haven for five years.

Arlene is a member of the Logan Center United Methodist Church, served as treasurer for the Logan Center United Methodist Women, played piano at church and taught Sunday school. She formerly served as treasurer and secretary for the Cedar County Farm Bureau and was a 4-H leader for 24 years.

Arlene was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 66 years and Past Matron. She loved to exhibit cooked goods, flowers and quilts at the fair where she received many top awards.

Arlene is survived by four children, Kathleen and Frank Plueger, Concord; Robert and Dorothy Patefield, Belden; Danny and Judy Patefield, Norfolk; Donna Guern, Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Pat Hansen, Del Rapids, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo, Nov. 19, 2009, at the age of 79; son-in-law, Paul Guern; a great-grandson, Michael Joshua McWilliams; three brothers, Rodney and Helen Hansen, Maynard Hansen, Kenneth and Mary Hansen; and two sisters, Bernita Meyer and Vivian (Leland) Lemke.
