Arlene E. Wohlman

HARTINGTON — Arlene E. Wohlman, 89, Hartington, died Feb. 5, 2020, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.

Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Visitation and a vigil service were Sunday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued one hour prior to services Monday.

Pallbearers were Harlen Grosskop, Brett Mainquist, Ross Wortmann, Brandon Mainquist, Hunter Grosskop, Caleb Schnider and Burnell Herbolsheimer.

Honorary Pallbearers were Steve and Patti Rokusek, Bob and Carol Hamilton, Donna Flom, Aleacia Herbolsheimer, Sue Kramer, Melissa Wortmann, Michelle Grosskop, Renae, Avery, Irelynn, Hailey and Danielle Mainquist.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Arlene was born the youngest of 10 children to Fred and Elizabeth (Goeden) Hoesing at her rural home in Menominee, May 31, 1930. She attended grade school in Menominee, two years of high school at Mount Marty, and two years at Holy Trinity, graduating in May 1948. Arlene married Kenneth Wohlman Aug. 13, 1949, at Yankton, S.D. They had three children: James, Mary and Connie. Kenneth died May 11, 1988, at the age of 58.

Arlene worked several places — Holy Trinity Cafeteria and the last 30 years before retiring was spent at Food Town, Hartington.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington.

She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, baking and mending for her grandchildren. Her hobby was making quilts for family, friends, Norfolk Mission and the Orphan Grain Train. She loved her polka and country music. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially watching their ball games.

She is survived by her children, James (Donna) Wohlman, Mary Grosskop and Connie (Bill) Mainquist, all of Hartington; grandchildren, Harlen (Michelle) Grosskop, Elkhorn; Brett (Renae) Mainquist and Melissa (Ross) Wortmann, Hartington; Brandon Mainquist, Wayne; greatgrandsons, Hunter Grosskop, Caleb Schnider; great-granddaughters, Avery, Irelynn, Hailey, Danielle Mainquist; sister, Della Goeden and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; sonin-law, Lou Grosskop; five brothers, Robert, Francis, Hilary, Clarence, Emery, and an infant brother; two sisters, Sr. Leonette, and Dorothy Kralicek; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
