Area residents receive pink postcards on property tax hearing

HARTINGTON – For the second straight year, pink postcards are piling up in Cedar County residents’ mailboxes.
That is because of a meeting of representatives of political subdivisions who are scheduled to gather at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 inside the basement of the Hartington City Auditorium.
The following governmental entities are meeting for the purpose of conducting a joint public hearing to obtain public input on the political subdivisions’ requested property tax increases:
- Cedar County: Property tax requested – $7,493,000.
- City of Laurel: Property tax requested – $281,376.28.
- City of Randolph: Property tax requested – $328,409.
