Area athletes earn All-State basketball honors

HARTINGTON — A trio of Cedar County boys basketball players and one local girl's basketball player have been deemed as some of the best in Nebraska.

All-State basketball selections were recently released by the Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World Herald, and Huskerland Prep Report.

Wynot’s Katelyn Heine and Laurel-Concord- Coleridge’s Noah Schutte were both named First Team to their respective All-State squads.

LCC’s Izac Reifenrath and Cedar Catholic’s Matthew Becker also made All-State honors. Reifenrath was named First Team All-State by Huskerland Prep Report and Second Team All State by the Omaha World Herald

Becker was named Second Team All-State by the Lincoln Journal Star and Huskerland Prep Report.

The Lincoln Journal Star announced LCC’s Schutte was the honorary captain for the Class C2 First Team All-State Team.

Schutte was named alongside Ponca’s Carter Kings- bury, Centennial’s Jackson Hirschfeld, Yutan’s Brady Timm, and BRLD’s Lucas Vogt. The Omaha World Herald named these same five players to their Class C2 First Team All-State.

Schutte led the District Finalist Bears to a 22-5 record. Averaging a double-double, Schutte led his team with 24.2 points per game, 13.9 rebounds per game, and 2.4 blocks per game.

He was second on the team in steals and assists behind Izac Reifenrath. Reifenrath earned an Honorable Mention from the Lincoln Journal Star and made the Class C2 Second Team in the Omaha World Herald.

Cedar Catholic’s Matthew Becker made the Class C2 Second Team in the Lincoln paper and earned an Honorable Mention in the Omaha outlet.

Becker was one of two seniors for the Trojans, leading the team with 18.4 points per game, and 8 rebounds per game. He also was second in blocks, third in assists, and fth in steals.

Other Honorable Mention selections are listed below.

Cedar County girls did not see much love by the All-State selections, but a Wynot junior earned Class D2 First Team selections by all three state-wide publications.

Katelyn Heine was selected alongside BDS’s Regan Alfs, Humphrey St. Francis’ Allison Weidner, Sandhills/ Thedford’s Marlee Taylor, and CWC’s Taylor Peter.

Heine led her team with
11 points per game, and 2.7 steals per game. She was also second on the team in assists and blocks, and fth in rebounds for the state champion Lady Blue Devils.
