HARTINGTON — It may not seem like it with the weather outside, but baseball season is right around the corner.
In fact, the Junior and Senior American Legion teams held their first practice Sunday night at the Fordyce Fire Hall.
The boys did throwing drills in the gymnasium and hitting drills in the batting cage in the basement. Don Whitmire is the head coach again, and he says the group may be young compared to last year, but there is a lot of experience because of last year’s success of both the Juniors and Seniors. Both teams came up just one game shy of State.
“We were senior heavy but we had some younger kids too that were huge in spots,” said head coach Don Whitmire. “We have a strong nucleus, I mean both teams were one game away from State last year. So we will be young, all of our kids on Seniors would be able to come back next year which would be nice.”
